Why Cloth?
Cloth nappies were an obvious choice for me. They seemed to make sense on so many different levels. Here are just a few reasons why you might get hooked on cloth too:
The Environment:
Around eight million disposable nappies are thrown away in the UK every day*. Nobody knows how long they take to decompose. Estimates are in the hundreds of years but nobody really knows for sure as they have only been around for about 30 years. I guess our kid's kid's kids will find out!.
With facts like these it just seems sensible to look to an alternative.
Cost:
Although there is an initial up front cost associated with cloth nappies in the long term they can save you hundreds of pounds, even after taking into account laundry costs.
And, If you feel brave enough to do it all again, with a bit of care & TLC your nappies should last a number of children. So go on, do yourself a favour, save yourself £hundreds!
Reliability, flexibility & peace of mind:
With cloth nappies you’re in control. Boost them up with a booster pad for extra absorbency, leave it out for a slimmer fit. With most nappies coming in two layers (the nappy & the wrap) that’s 2 lines of defence against any leaks. Poppers, velcro or nappi nippa fasteners all allow you to fasten the nappy to give a snug fit at the legs & waist.
And you know what they’re made of. The majority of cloth nappies are made of a cotton blend meaning you avoid putting any additional, unnecessary chemicals next to your baby’s skin.
So that's your pocket, the environment & your baby all benefiting from cloth nappies.
